Safari Description: This safari visits the Aberdares with a night at the famous Treetops Lodge set in the heart of the Aberdares where animals visit the floodlit water hole. On the second day you visit Lake Nakuru National Park in the heart of the Great Rift Valley and spend the night at one of the lodges set on a vantage point with sweeping views of the pink-flamingo colored Lake Nakuru. On the third day you leave early to drive to the Masai Mara where two nights are spent. The Masai Mara is undoubtedly the jewel of Kenya's game reserves. It is the northern extension of the world famous Serengeti Reserve and it is to this area that the annual migration of wildebeest takes place (generally between June and September). Amongst its many animals, the Mara is well known for the large prides of black manned lion. You also have the option of enjoying a balloon safari over the plains of the Reserve (Extra)
Itinerary…
Day 1: Nairobi-Tree hotel
Depart Nairobi and drive through large plantations of coffee, tea and pineapple to Nyeri and into Outspan Hotel the base hotel for Treetops for lunch. After lunch, you join the Treetops bus for the 45-minutes drive to the forest lodge situated in the heart of the Aberdares. The rest of the afternoon is spent watching game from the balconies of the lodge with dinner and overnight at the Lodge – (LD)
Day 2: Tree Hotel – Lake Nakuru
You are woken by the chirping of birds to fresh coffee or tea then transfer to Outspan for full breakfast. After breakfast, you link up with your Driver Guide and drive around the Aberdares with fantastic views of the peak – Laisama to Nyahururu. We have time to view the Thompson Falls named by explorer Joseph Thompson in 1892 before driving down the Eastern wall of the Great Rift Valley. You continue down the escarpment to Lake Nakuru for a short game drive enroute to the lodge for lunch. Lake Nakuru is shallow water mass fed by rivers Njoro and nderit. The relatively shallow depth allows for growth of algae, which attract the one and half million of, lesser and greater flamingoes that feed on the shores. In addition, more than 350 different birds’ species have been recorded in this park. Animals to be seen include giraffes, rhinos, waterbucks and a host of other animals. Day 3: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara
Today, we have an early breakfast then drive back through Naivasha and enjoy dramatic views of the Rift Valley to Narok. You then drive down to the floor and across to Narok and into the game filled plains of the Mara arriving in time for lunch at your lodge. After lunch, you have your first game drive in this park an extension of the Serengeti. Animals to be seen include lion, giraffe, buffalo, hyenas, and a lot of plain game. Dinner and overnight at your lodge/Tented Camp - BLD
Day 4: Masai Mara
Today you have a full day in the Masai Mara. You enjoy a morning game drive just after breakfast in which you drive down to the hippo pools and watch these ancient mammals wallow in the muddy brown waters of the rivers, which traverse this reserve. You return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch you enjoy a siesta or take a dip in the pool to cool off the afternoon sun. At 1530hrs, you have an afternoon game drive to a different part of the park and search for animals not yet seen. You will find the undulating plains dotted with rocky outcrops (kopjes) that are favorite resting places for lions in the heat of the day. You return to the lodge just before dark for dinner and overnight. (BLD)
Day 5: Masai Mara-Nairobi
A wake up call at 0600hrs followed by a quick cup of coffee/tea, enjoy an early morning game drive that offers an opportune time to see the late hunters. After breakfast drive to Nairobi arriving around in the mid-afternoon- B
